Week 2 - Types of AI

Artificial Intelligence, (AI), is changing the way we live and work. Two important types of AI are Generative AI and Predictive AI. While they both use data to perform tasks, they are designed for different purposes.

Generative AI is about creating new things. It learns patterns from data and uses that knowledge to generate content like text, images, or music. Think of it as a creative tool that can write a story, design an image, or compose a tune based on what it has learned. For example, tools like ChatGPT can help you draft an email or write an essay, and programs like DALL·E can turn your ideas into pictures. Generative AI is widely used in art, marketing, and entertainment.

Predictive AI focuses on looking at past data to predict what will happen in the future. It’s like having a smart assistant that helps you make decisions by showing you possible outcomes. For instance, stores use predictive AI to forecast product demand, and doctors use it to predict health risks. It’s also used in weather forecasting, stock market analysis, and risk management.

Generative AI creates new things, while Predictive AI predicts future events. Generative AI is great for being creative, while Predictive AI helps with planning and decision-making. Both are powerful tools that use data and machine learning, but they have different goals. Together, they show how AI can both inspire and inform us. In summary, whether you need to create something new or plan for the future, AI has you covered. Understanding these types of AI can help you make the most of their potential.
